turning real in steel - see here - or with Oxigin wheels below rollover

my custom beetle runs the radiator in the back,

oooo which is fine up to about 60 mph, then the motor heat outpaces the cooling capacity of this setup

this is due to aerodynamics because

ooooooiioturbulences behind the square back don't help to suck the heat out to the rearooooo

oooooooooooooooooooooioooooooThe obvious remedy, of course, would be moving the radiator

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooto the front, owhere for some reason most of them are anyway!

So, some old-school pencil sketches and

a photoshop version later, this is what it might look like

oo

oooooIn this concept a front spoiler is added and the front valance cut out to guide air into the trunk ooooooo

to a radiator mounted in the spare wheel well oo

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooocccoooooooA panel in the front trunk guides the hot air out ooo

through custom made vents in the hood

The whole thing is called an extractor hood ooooooioooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

giving that serious race car look like in the GT 40

or this competition Ghia from Brazil

oooooooo And this is how it's doneo

picked up a good lid for 50 quid

and set the cutting wheels in motionooooooooooooo.oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

with a lotta cuttin' and welding done, this is what it looks like oooooooooooooooooooooo

welded, primed and racing striped

this is a mock up of how the GTI radiator sits

and the extractor vents from inside

oooooooooooooooooooo still missing a mesh to keep leaves or prying fingers out of the trunk

watch out for more on the front radiator version of the...

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

...like the latest rollover paint ideas

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

tha's cool
